Jalandhar/ Oct 2/Daljeet Ajnoha : In a significant initiative to combat drug abuse and empower the youth, the Department of Health & Family Welfare has renovated the Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre at village Shekhe. Alongside, a Skill Development Centre, established with the support of the Jalandhar District Administration and Sun Foundation, will also be inaugurated on October 3, 2025.
The inauguration ceremony will be led by Dr. Balbir Singh, Minister of Health, Family Welfare & Medical Education, Government of Punjab. The event will also witness the esteemed presence of Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Rajya Sabha and Chairman of Sun Foundation, and Mr. Balkar Singh, MLA, Kartarpur Sahib.
Adding further significance to the occasion, Dr. Raman Gupta, Civil Surgeon, Jalandhar; Dr. Himanshu Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar; and Mr. Kumar Rahul IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Punjab, will also grace the ceremony as special guests.
The Sun Foundation, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, has earned recognition for its dedicated work in social service, de-addiction campaigns, and youth empowerment. Over the years, the Foundation has transformed the lives of thousands of families across India by not only helping individuals overcome addiction but also by equipping them with employable skills to rebuild their futures.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Sahney stated, “De-addiction is not just about treatment—it is about giving people a new direction in life. Sun Foundation is committed to ensuring that every rehabilitated youth acquires a skill so that they can live with dignity and self-reliance.”
The Skill Development Centre at Jalandhar will offer technical and vocational training courses, enabling rehabilitated individuals to secure employment opportunities and reintegrate into society.
This joint effort by the Punjab Government, District Administration, and Sun Foundation is being hailed as a milestone in the fight against drug menace and in empowering the youth of Punjab.
