PAU-KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA HOSHIARPUR HOLDS

Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/Feb.4 :  working under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I recently organized Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at its campus under the chairmanship of Dr.Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana.
The meeting was also graced by Dr Dipinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur, Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Rupnagar, Dr. Balwinder Singh, Assistant Director (Horticulture), Dr. Yogita Sharma, Programme Coordinator, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Una (Himachal Pradesh), Dr. Sumanjit Kaur, Incharge, MSR Fruit Research Sub-Station, Gangian, Dr. Charanjit Kaur, Senior Extension Scientist (Agronomy), Farm Advisory Service Centre, Hoshiarpur, Dr. Maninder Singh, Principal Extension Scientist (Agronomy), Farm Advisory Service Centre, Jalandhar and Dr. Kiranjit Singh, Agriculture Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Hoshiarpur.
Scientists from Farm Advisory Service Centre, Hoshiarpur, Vegetable Research Farm, Khanoura & Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhari, Officials from allied line departments, progressive farmers/farmwomen members of the committee from the district and KVK Hoshiarpur scientists also participated in the meeting.
After extending a cordial welcome to the dignitaries and SAC members, Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Hoshiarpur presented the action taken report on the proceedings of last meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee, while the annual progress report of activities undertaken by KVK during last year and action plan for the activities to be conducted by KVK during 2025-26 were presented by the individual scientists from KVK Hoshiarpur.
In his presidential remarks, Dr.Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, stressed upon the need to promote value addition and processing of agricultural produce for better economic returns. He also praised the strong collaboration of KVK with the allied departments at district level in joint implementation of farmer welfare activities and campaigns. He highlighted the importance of SAC meeting for playing an important role in planning out the working of KVK for serving the farming community of the area in a better way and sought suggestions from the members. Dr. Bhullar also laid stress on the importance of proper training & pruning of fruit plants and promotion of low tunnel technology for vegetable cultivation among farmers of the area. He also asked the extension staff to continue regular monitoring and surveillance of crops for timely detection of pests and diseases.
Dr Dipinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur praised the KVK scientists for their good work done for the betterment of farming community. He also emphasized on the promotion of quality gur and jaggery production and joint monitoring of paddy residue management demonstrations. Dr. Dipinder also stressed on the need for proper training of crop residue machinery operators for its effectiveness in the field.
All the SAC members had fruitful discussion and gave their valuable suggestions for effective working of KVK.
Extension literature on processing of oilseed crops and beekeeping were also released by the dignitaries and they also visited paddy residue management demonstration learning platform & other demonstration units at KVK farm.
In the end, Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Rupnagar proposed a formal vote of thanks to the guests, SAC members and progressive farmers/farmwomen members.
