PAU-KVK, Hoshiarpur organizes various training courses in subsidiary occupations for the benefit of farmers, farm women and rural youth of the area. In this context, five days Mushroom cultivation training was organized from 9th-13th September 2024 at its campus.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, inaugurated the training programme and enlightened the trainees about the services rendered by the KVK for the betterment of the farming community and exhorted them to adopt subsidiary occupations for augmenting their income. Dr. Bons highlighted that mushroom farming can be started as subsidiary occupation to substantially enhance the income of farmers.
During the training, Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), KVK Bahowal carried out in-depth discussion sessions on cultivation, spawn production, compost preparation and crop management of Button, Oyster, Milky, Shiitake and Paddy Straw mushroom. Trainees learned various aspects of mushroom cultivation during hands on practical sessions at KVK campus. Lectures about disease management, processing and marketing of mushrooms were also delivered by KVK experts.
An exposure visit to the farm of a successful mushroom grower and KVK trainee, Sh. Amandeep Singh Sidhu was organized at village Parsota during which he shared his journey and experience for commercial mushroom farming. On this occasion, Dr. Harjit Singh, Horticulture Development Officer, Mahilpur, also addressed the trainees and encouraged them to adopt this profitable agri-venture. He gave detailed information about various schemes regarding mushroom farming for the welfare of farming community.
