Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/May 6 : Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, Ashika Jain, informed that as per the directions of the Government of India, a preparedness drill will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7, to handle any emergency situation. As part of this, sirens will sound at 7 PM, symbolizing an air raid alert. She stated that whenever such sirens are heard, the public is expected to vacate tall buildings immediately and take shelter in underground bunkers or on open ground. If no shelter is available, people should lie down under trees or in open spaces. Those inside buildings should move away from windows, especially glass ones.
During this time, people should turn off their gas and electricity connections and store drinking water and food as per their needs. She added that pedestrians or vehicles on roads must give way immediately to emergency vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances.
She emphasized that this is a civil defense drill intended to check the functionality and sound of the sirens, and there is no reason to panic.
She further informed that a blackout drill will be conducted at 8 PM the same evening. During the blackout, all city lights will be turned off, and the public is requested to also turn off their inverters or generators. If, for any reason, these need to stay on, the lights should be used in a way that no light escapes through windows or doors. Additionally, CCTV cameras with lights that activate in the dark should be switched off during this time to ensure complete darkness throughout the city.
If any vehicle is on the road during the blackout, its lights must be turned off and it should be parked off the road on a non-paved area.
