Two-day 14th District Yoga Championship

The two-day 14th District Yoga Championship concluded here on Sunday under the presidency of Tikshaqn Sood, president of the District Yoga Association, Hoshiarpur. About 400 students from 22 schools participated in the competition, which drew contestants aged between eight and 72 years.
Sood said the Championship showcased strong interest in yoga across age groups and educational institutions. “Yoga’s real success lies in respecting our elders and gurus,” he said, urging youth associated with yoga to take part in planned initiatives aimed at preserving the environment and community welfare.
Participating institutions included Birla Open Mind School, MBBGRGS Public School, North High School, Doaba Public School, PD Arya School, St. Soldier Divine School, BR Sainik School, Mount Carmel School, SD City Public School, Government Senior Secondary School Railway Mandi, Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Government High School Bajwara, St. Farid School (HSP), Maharishi Bhrigu Ved Vidyalaya, Rayat Bahra Public School, SAV Jain Day Boarding School, SD Senior Secondary School (Girls), SD Public School, Kids Public School (HSP), Solace Wellness Center, Yoga Seva Ashram (HSP), and 333 Wellness Center (HSP).
Overall team honours went to MBBGRGS Public School, Mansowal, which finished first. SD Senior Secondary School (Girls), Hoshiarpur, secured second place, while 333 Wellness Center, Hoshiarpur, took third.
On the final day, cultural presentations were staged by BR Sainik School (Ram Colony), SD Senior Secondary School (HSP), Birla Open Mind School, St. Farid High School and SD Public School (Geeta Bhavan). Winners received medals and trophies, and the Social Welfare Committee distributed commemorative T-shirts to the champions.
The closing ceremony drew notable local dignitaries and educationists. Present were Dr. Ashish Sareen; Professor Tarsem Mahajan; Pooja Mahajan; Arvind Sood (President, Sood Sabha); Avinash Sood (Senior Vice‑President, Sood Sabha); Dr. Keshav Sood; Navdeep Sood (founder, Atmadev Atmasukh Ashram); Anurag Sood; Vidya Mandir Director Madam Rajni; Rohit Kumar Varkhi (BR Sainik School); Sanjeev Gupta; Manish Sood; Ashish Sood; and office-bearers of the Yoga Association including Ramdev Yadav, Anil Kumar Sood, Sunil, Sanjeev Sharma, Neerja Sood, Akshay Sharma, Shruti Sood, Joginder Singh, and yoga instructors Anita Jaswal and Ram Chander. Yoga guru Dr. Pramod Sharma also attended.
Tikshan Sood lauded participants for their discipline and commitment, and offered them best wishes for the future. He emphasized that yoga-oriented youth should actively contribute to environmental stewardship and community development. He reiterated that honoring elders and teachers remains central to the practice and spirit of yoga.
The championship, which drew students, teachers and community leaders, highlighted the growing grassroots interest in yoga across Hoshiarpur and neighbouring areas, and reinforced the district association’s role in promoting health, discipline and cultural values through regular events and training programs.
