*Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha/Feb.15 : Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri on Sunday flagged off the inaugural Pro Run at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), marking a vibrant kickoff to the Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh National Marathon 2026.
MLAs Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Manwinder Singh Giaspura, and Ashok Parashar Pappi, along with PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal and other dignitaries were also present.
Starting at 6:30 am from the PAU campus, the 5-km Pro Run serves as the curtain-raiser for the main Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh National Marathon, scheduled for March 22, 2026 in Mahilpur, Hoshiarpur. Organized as a heartfelt tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, the marathon is a powerful collective push toward building a drug-free Punjab.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Speaker Rouri described the marathon as far more than a sporting event—it is a dynamic movement blending patriotism, physical fitness, and an unwavering fight against drug abuse. “Through sports and widespread community involvement, this initiative honours the ideals and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters while confronting one of Punjab’s most pressing challenges head-on,” he said. He highlighted the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign as a transformative, decisive battle against the drug menace. “The government is committed to leaving no stone unturned until the drug menace is completely eradicated and traffickers are brought to justice,” Rouri affirmed.
The Deputy Speaker also shared that the state is developing 3,100 rural sports grounds to channel youth energy toward sports and healthy lifestyles, steering them away from drugs.
In a further passionate appeal, Rouri urged citizens of all ages—students, families, youth, employees, and senior citizens to participate in large numbers in the main marathon on March 22.
