SDMs and DSPs to visit drug de-addiction centres and interact with addicts twice a month
Capacity of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres enhanced
OPD/IPD also increased due to efforts of police, health and other line departments
Awareness campaign to be taken to grassroots level against menace
Hoshiarpur/April 16/Daljeet Ajnoha : Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik on Wednesday reviewed the drug de-addiction and awareness measures under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign in the district, stating that stock of anti-drugs measures will be taken on weekly basis.
Interacting with the officials of the line departments at the local District Administrative Complex, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that the foremost priority is to contain drugs and help those in rehabilitating, who have caught in drug trap. They said stringent action would be initiated against peddlers and supplier in line with zero tolerance policy. The concerned departments are making all out efforts against drugs thus the number of OPD and IPD have been increased in the district at de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, which reflects desire of addicts to shun the menace.
Deputy Commissioner apprised that the capacity of the District Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Center and De-Addiction Centers had been enhanced. The rehabilitation centre has now 100 bed capacity against the 60 bed previously while the de-addiction centers were equipped with 20 bed each instead of earlier 10 beds. If any person wants to shun the menace, said the SSP adding that district administration or police department could be approached to get best rehabilitation.
Deputy Commissioner also directed that the SDMs and DSPs would visit to de-addiction centers in their areas twice a month, where they have to interact with addicts to motivate them towards healthy life. Apart from this, they will also provide feedback to further strengthen and improve the system and facilities at these centres.
Emphasising that dissemination of information against drugs is of utmost significance, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that special seminars, camps and interactive sessions would be carried out in the district so as to make people aware about the ill-effects of drugs at grassroots level. These steps would be ensured in association with social organizations, self-help groups, village panchayats, students etc. so that the campaign against drugs can be implemented efficaciously. The Deputy Commissioner and SSP appealed to the people that if they have any information about the peddlers and supply chain, they can share it in helpline or with the police administration, for prompt action.
