Elderly Volunteer Urges Citizens to

Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/May 21 .:  he arrival and departure of every soul in this world happens by the command of the formless Almighty, and whoever is born must one day leave — death is certain, said5 so5cial worker and body-donation Bhai Barinder Singh Masiti.
Speaking about his 65 years of life and 26 years in social service, Masiti said he lives and breathes by the will of God and considers his efforts to promote donation as a duty. “I have spent 65 years of my life under God’s command; breath itself is a gift,” he said. “Being truthful is difficult, and following truth in this world is even harder. Those who speak the truth face more difficulties. But if God assigns someone a duty, they should carry it out with honesty, hard work and selflessness. Devoting one’s body to others becomes an act of humanity.”
Masiti said he has worked for 26 years to raise awareness about eye donation, body donation, organ donation and voluntary blood donation. He cycles about 30 kilometres every morning from around 8 a.m. to spread the message: “Donate your eyes, donate your body, donate your organs.” He urged people to cooperate with social organisations that facilitate corneal transplants and organ transfers. “After death, eyes and bodies are being donated, and charitable organisations are helping needy patients get transplants,” he said, adding that groups such as the Rotary Club Hoshiarpur and eye-donation societies can be approached for corneal transplants.
Acknowledging the certainty of death, Masiti appealed to doctors, eye-donation and organ-donation organisations, and the public to be ready to accept his donated eyes and organs when he dies. “One day my breath will leave this body. Earlier I used to be seen walking; after my death you will need to remove this body. Please feel the need — those organisations that have stood by me, I request you to accept my body’s eyes and organs in donation after I am gone,” he said. He emphasised his wish that his eyes and organs be used free of cost for needy people and said he already takes comfort in the thought that his death could restore sight and life to others.
Masiti called on recipients of donated organs to themselves pledge donation after their death. “If someone has received material help — eyes or organs — through me, I urge them to donate their organs and eyes after their death,” he said. “There will never be a person in India who cannot experience this grace. We have helped many who were blind to see the world again, to experience colours and the sights of life.”
He appealed to charitable organisations across the country not to waste time and to record such donations in their registers. Masiti expressed gratitude to God and to fellow social organisations for supporting his work, and urged the nation to perform this humanitarian duty: “Let the end be good, and let the result be good.”
