Shimla Pahari Chowk’s Years‑

Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/June4 : In a major step to relieve residents of chronic waterlogging during the monsoon, MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa today inaugurated a new intermediate pumping station (IPS) and associated storm sewer works at Shimla Pahari Chowk. Jimpa said the storm sewer project will provide a permanent solution to the long-standing flooding problem and bring significant relief to nearby residents.
He said the ambitious project was completed by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board at a cost of around Rs 1.58 crore. Jimpa noted that every rainy season large volumes of water used to accumulate at Shimla Pahari Chowk, causing severe inconvenience to residents, shopkeepers and pedestrians. On several occasions waterlogging disrupted traffic and hampered daily activities.
Keeping the long-pending demand of local residents in mind, the project was prioritized and approved, he added. Under the scheme, a dedicated pipeline has been laid from the Shimla Pahari area up to Bhangi Choah to discharge stormwater directly into Bhangi Choah. This, he said, will prevent water from pooling at the chowk and surrounding areas and ensure smooth movement during the rainy season.
Jimpa said the Punjab government is continuously working to expand civic amenities and strengthen urban infrastructure. He said various development projects are being expedited to provide better facilities to the public and expressed confidence that the new arrangement will prove effective in the upcoming monsoon and largely eliminate the area’s waterlogging problem.
Local residents at the inauguration welcomed the project and thanked the MLA. Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Ajay Verma, Sudarshan Dheer, Santosh Saini, Ajay Saini, Manjeet Singh, Vikas Saini, Subhash Chandra, Pradeep Saini and Kulwinder Singh Hundal, among other dignitaries and area residents, were present.
