LADC policy to be scrapped

Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/August 3 : The LADC (Legal Aid and Defence Counsel) policy will be scrapped — a victory attributed to the unity and struggle of the legal fraternity, District Bar Association (DBA) Hoshiarpur leaders said on Sunday. The announcement came after a well-organised meeting at the Supreme Court, the leaders said.
DBA president Advocate P.S. Ghumman, secretary Navjinder Singh Bedi and Bar Council member Advocate Rajni Nanda told reporters that the meeting decided not to renew the contracts awarded under the policy, which ran until 30 September 2026, and had established panels of lawyers. Once the current contractual term expires, the policy will not be extended and the previous system will be reinstated, they said.
Expressing gratitude to the Supreme Court, the office-bearers said the decision secures the future of practising lawyers and students who aspire to join the profession. They credited the victory to the unified efforts of the lawyer community, who rallied together on a single platform to press their demands.
They added that the campaign was especially significant as Hoshiarpur had taken a leading role in the struggle. Returning from the Supreme Court, they said celebrations will be held on 4 August with fellow members of the lawyers’ collective.
