Former cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood unfurled the national flag at the local leprosy home today to mark the 80th Independence Day. Residents of the ashram welcomed Sood and fellow BJP leaders former mayor Shiv Sood, Satish Bawa, Suresh Bhatia ‘Bittu’ and Pankaj Bansal by garlanding them.
In his address after the flag hoisting, Sood recalled that India won independence on August 15, 1947, after a long struggle and innumerable sacrifices. He said that on this 80th anniversary the central Modi government is rapidly realising the dreams of the martyrs by providing basic amenities to all citizens and lifting 25 crore people out of poverty. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge to build a developed India by the 100th year of independence will be fulfilled at an early date.
Sood also distributed sweets and thanked the ashram residents for their participation.
