Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/August 16 : Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and gaiety at Nursery Ground, Talwara. Chief Engineer, Pong Dam, Er. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, hoisted the National Flag and extended warm greetings to all officers, employees, students and residents on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Er. Rakesh Gupta said that India has made remarkable progress in various fields since Independence, but much more remains to be achieved. He said that Independence Day is an occasion to renew our commitment towards contributing to the progress and development of the nation. He urged the youth to work with dedication, discipline and sincerity towards nation-building.
Highlighting BBMB’s contribution to the energy sector, he said that the organisation would continue to strengthen its role in the development of the country. He emphasised that every citizen, irrespective of his or her profession, can contribute to nation-building by performing their duties with honesty and dedication.
The Chief Engineer also inspected the parade and received the salute during the March Past led by Parade Commander Ranjit Singh. Fire Brigade personnel, Scouts and NCC cadets from various schools participated in the parade.
Students of BBMB DAV School, Sri Harkrishan Public School, Sarv Hitkari Vidya Mandir, Vishisht Bharti Public School, Government Model School, Government Senior Secondary Girls School and Government Senior Secondary Boys School, Talwara, presented patriotic and cultural programmes.
Students who achieved distinction in various fields were specially honoured on the occasion. Mountaineer Parminder Singh and two young achievers, Jaspinder Singh and Raminder Singh, were also felicitated for successfully undertaking challenging high-altitude mountain routes at a young age.
The programme was conducted by SDO Dharminder Singh and Ms. Geetanjali.
Among those present were BBMB Red Cross Chairperson Mrs. Seema Gupta, Deputy Chief Engineers Vimal Meena, Manveen Choudhary and Ajit Kumar, Additional Superintending Engineers Vinay Kumar and Arvinder Pal Singh Ubhi, Executive Engineer Gaurav Lamba and other officers and employees.
Independence Day Observed at Dam Site
Earlier, an Independence Day programme was also organised at the Pong dam site. After paying homage to those who lost their lives during the construction of the dam, the National Flag was hoisted by former BBMB Chairman D.K. Sharma in the presence of Chief Engineer Rakesh Gupta and other officers.
