Death Threats at Guru Ravidas

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Dec.12 : A delegation from the Guru Ravidas Sadhu Sampradaya Society (Regd.) Punjab, led by president Sant Baba Nirmal Dass Babejore and general secretary Sant Inder Dass Sekhe, met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rupnagar, Gurleen Singh Khurana IPS. Present were Sant Sarwan Dass (senior vice-president), Sant Dharmpal (forum secretary), Sant Ramesh Dass (publicity secretary), Sant Satvinder Heera (national president, All India Adi Dharma Mission (Regd.) India), Sant Jaggi Singh (Sarbat Bhala Ashram, Nandachaur), Sant Manjeet Dass Vichohi, Baba Balakar Singh (Taggar Wadala), sevadars Lavpreet and Babu Ram (Dera Sant Seetal Das Bohan), sarpanch Vijey Nangal, and other devotees.Written Complaint Lodged with SSPIn a detailed written complaint, general secretary Sant Inder Dass stated that approximately 36 acres of land (khasra No. 220/6, village Mahindpur, tehsil Nangal, Rupnagar district) at Shri Guru Ravidas Begumpura Sadan, Shri Khuralgarh—acquired by devotees from India and abroad for welfare activities—is maintained by the society and its saints. Preparations were in progress for the 350th Shaheedi Purab of Dhann Dhann Sahib Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji on December 12.On December 8, 2025, society member Raj Kumar, son of Darshan Lal, was supervising land cleaning with labourers when, around 4 pm, Surinder Kumar alias Shinda entered forcibly with his wife Satya Devi, 10-12 associates, and an armed government security personnel. Shinda issued death threats to Raj Kumar and the workers, vowed to prevent the Shaheedi event, used derogatory language against the society, and obstructed preparations, amounting to sacrilege.Trespass in Defiance of Court Stay OrderThe society highlighted an ongoing civil suit in the court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Nangal, where a stay order favours them against Shinda and others. Despite this, the group violated the order, desecrating the sacred site. They demanded strict action against Shinda, his wife, and associates, plus security for the Shaheedi Purab at the premises.Accused Rejects AllegationsContacted for comment, 70-year-old Surinder Kumar alias Shinda denied the charges as “baseless,” claiming he issued no threats and that his side holds a stay order in the land dispute.Obstruction of Shaheedi Events Strongly CondemnedShiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) state leader Jathedar Gurnam Singh Singdewala termed the disruption of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s Shaheedi centenary events “reprehensible” and urged a thorough police investigation with stringent legal measures.
