Appeal to Punjab CM, Finance Minister, Deputy Speaker, Sports-Tourism-Culture Minister
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/May 12 : Lakhs of devotees visit the historic sites of Sri Charan Choh Ganga and Sri Guru Ravidas Dharm Sthan Begumpura at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib every year. While religious, social and political organisations have long demanded that the site be declared a liquor-free holy place by shutting down nearby liquor vend, the dilapidated roads here pose a major hazard for daily pilgrims. These roads not only cause daily inconvenience but also lead to frequent accidents, resulting in untimely deaths.
To draw the Punjab government’s attention, Adi Dharma Sadhu Samaj national president Sant Sarvan Das (Ludhiana), Sant Satvinder Hira, national president of All India Adi Dharma Mission (Regd.) India, and Mukh sevadar of Sri Charan Choh Ganga Sachkhand Begumpura, have made a special appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Deputy Speaker Jai Kishan Rouri, and Cabinet Minister Deepak Bali (advisor on sports, tourism and culture affairs). They urged the government to construct roads to Sri Khuralgarh Sahib before the 650th birth centenary celebrations of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj.
The saints stated that the road from Begumpura Chowk to Khurali should be widened to a four-lane highway, at least 100 feet wide, with 20-foot-high girders installed over the descending ravine section. They noted that several devotees have lost their lives in accidents on this stretch so far, and reducing the steep incline to a proper level is essential to prevent further tragedies.
They described the route as highly dangerous, with multiple past accidents claiming precious lives. They demanded that the road be closed to heavy vehicles and that permanent traffic police deployment be ensured for monitoring to avert mishaps.
Sants Sarvan Das and Satvinder Hira recalled that during a meeting of the sadhu samaj convened by Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann in Chandigarh on April 11, national president Sant Satvinder Hira had raised the issue of the Khuralgarh Sahib dam project to prevent loss of lives and property. No action has been taken yet. They appealed to the Punjab government to initiate work on this project before the monsoons, offering relief from potential devastating floods.
