Hoshiarpur Players Shine at State Karate Championship
Aarti from Jagmohan’s Institute wins double gold in Kata and Kumit

Players from Hoshiarpur delivered an outstanding performance at the Punjab State Karate Championship held in Sunam Udham Singh Wala. The event was organised by the District Sangrur Karate Association under the aegis of the Sports Karate Organization of Punjab, ( SKOP) featuring competitions in junior, under-21, and senior categories for both boys and girls. Around 300 selected karate athletes from across Punjab took part in the championship.
Representing Hoshiarpur district, three players were selected from Jagmohan’s Institute of Traditional Karate (JITK), including international karateka Aarti Kumari and Aaditya Bakshi. The junior team was led by Akshita Sharma.
Aarti Kumari delivered a remarkable performance, winning gold medals in both Kata and Kumite in the under-21 girls category. According to District Karate Association General Secretary and Chief Coach Shihan Jagmohan Vij, Aarti has maintained an exceptional record winning gold in every State Championship she has participated in from 2014 to 2026 across sub-junior, cadets, junior, and under-21 categories in both disciplines. She is the first karateka from Punjab to achieve this milestone.
In the past, during the 1990s, Hoshiarpur athletes Pooja Sood and Sushmana Dogra also achieved great success by winning in sub-junior, junior, and senior categories. However, under-21 and cadet categories were not included in competitions at that time.
Aaditya Bakshi, representing Sarvanand Giri Law College, secured a silver medal in the senior boys’ Kata event and a bronze medal in Kumite. Meanwhile, Akshita Sharma won a gold medal in the junior girls’ Kata category.
