Hoshiarpur players shine with bat and ball
Hoshiarpur/ April 26/Daljeet Ajnoha : In the Punjab Cricket Association’s inter-district Under-16 cricket tournament, Hoshiarpur secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating Pathankot on the basis of a first-innings lead in a two-day quarterfinal match.
Hoshiarpur District Cricket Association (HDCA) secretary Dr. Raman Ghai said Pathankot won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Hoshiarpur were bowled out for 229 in 73.1 overs, with Yug Grover top-scoring on 71, captain Yuvraj Thakur making 43, Mankaran Singh 23 and Amarpreet Singh 19.
Pathankot folded for just 103 in their first innings against Hoshiarpur’s sharp bowling attack. Balraj and Rudra scored 24 each for the losers, while Abhinav Pratap claimed 4-? , Sankalp Sharma and Ishaan took 3 each, Andherv Mahajan grabbed 2 and Manan Narayan 1.
Enforcing a follow-on with a 126-run lead, Hoshiarpur reached 358 for 4 when stumps were drawn. Lakshydeep Sandhu remained unbeaten on 101, captain Yuvraj hammered 71, Mankaran 64, Amanpreet Singh 45 and Yug Grover 43.
HDCA president Dr. Daljeet Khela, joint secretary Vivek Sahni, Thakur Yograj, Dr. Pankaj Shiv and other officials congratulated the team. District coach Daljeet Singh, team coach Praveen Kapoor, assistant coaches Daljeet Dhiman, Pankaj Pinka, Ashok Sharma, Dinesh Sharma, trainer and former national player Kuldeep Dhami, district women’s coach Davinder Kaur Kalyan and assistant Nikita Kumari also extended best wishes for the semifinals.
Hoshiarpur will face Mohali in the semifinals from April 28 to May 1.
