Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/June 09 :
A special awareness and health screening camp was organised today at Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur to mark the 10th anniversary of the Prime Minister’s Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), according to Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr Mandeep Kamal. The day was also observed with special activities at all PHCs, CHCs, sub-divisional hospitals and common man clinics across the district, where pregnant women were informed about the free health services available under the scheme.
The camp at Civil Hospital was led by SMO in-charge Dr Navjot Singh and SMO Dr Neha Pal. District Family Welfare Officer Dr Ranjit Singh was also present.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ranjit Singh said the Prime Minister’s Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan is an important central government initiative aimed at ensuring safe pregnancies and deliveries. He added that on the 9th of every month, government health facilities provide free check-ups and counselling by specialist doctors to pregnant women.
Dr Neha Pal appealed to expectant mothers to undergo regular antenatal check-ups and to utilise all free services available at government health institutions. She said timely examinations help identify high-risk pregnancies early and protect the health of both mother and child.
Obstetrician Dr Parvaaz told the pregnant women that under PMSMA they receive free ANC check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, haemoglobin testing, TT vaccination, ultrasound-related consultations and essential medicines such as iron-folic acid and calcium. He stressed that at least four ANC visits, a balanced diet and regular intake of iron-folic acid and calcium tablets are vital during pregnancy. Regular medical check-ups, he added, help control complications arising during pregnancy in a timely manner.
District Mass Media Officer Tarsem Lal said the health department is running continuous awareness activities to extend the benefits of the scheme to as many pregnant women as possible.
Free health checks were conducted for pregnant women at the camp and information on safe motherhood was provided. High-risk pregnancies were identified and given specialised counselling and referrals where necessary. Deputy Mass Media Officer Ravinder Jassal ably conducted the proceedings.
Also present were District Mass Media Officer Mrs Ramandeep Kaur, Block Extension Educator Rohit Sharma, Dr Tarnpreet (Facility Manager), ICN Harpreet Kaur and the medical and paramedical staff of Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur.
