Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/June 9 : In the Inter-District Senior Women’s Cricket Tournament organized by the Punjab Cricket Association, Hoshiarpur secured their second successive victory, defeating Kapurthala by seven wickets in a one-day 50-over match, HDC A secretary Dr. Raman Ghai said on Monday.
Kapurthala, elected to bat after losing the toss, posted 204 runs in 49.2 overs. Muskann Sharma top-scored with 47, while Sukhmanleen Kaur and Samreet Kaur contributed 30 runs each. Hoshiarpur’s bowling attack was led by Anjali Seemar and Sanjana Kumari, who picked up four wickets apiece, and Shivani, who dismissed two Kapurthala batters.
Chasing a target of 205, Hoshiarpur reached the mark in 42.1 overs for the loss of three wickets, completing the chase by seven wickets and earning four points. Pooja Devi starred with an unbeaten 78, and Niranka continued her fine form with a fifty. Additional contributions came from Vanshika (20), Manreet Olakh (16) and captain Suhana (not out 15).
Dr. Ghai said Hoshiarpur has won both matches in Group A and now has eight points. HDC A president Dr. Daljit Khela, Vivek Sahni, Thakur Yograj, Dr. Pankaj Shiv, Jatinder Sood and other association officials congratulated the team on the big win. Coach Davinder Kaur Kalyan, assistant coach Nikita Kumari and team manager Kuljeet Dhami also lauded the players, while senior coach Daljit Singh, assistant coach Praveen Shintu, Pankaj Pinka, Dinesh Sharma and Ashok Sharma praised the side for their impressive performance.
Hoshiarpur will next face district Ropar on June 11 at Hoshiarpur, Dr. Ghai added.
