Hoshiarpur, Oct 25 /Daljeet Ajnoha— As part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh, the district administration is continuing efforts to create awareness among residents. In this series, OSD (Urban Affairs) Oishee Mandal addressed an awareness meeting in Balbir Colony, Hoshiarpur, highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse and calling for collective efforts to eradicate the social evil. SP Navneet Kaur was also specially present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Oishee Mandal said drug abuse was a serious social problem that could be tackled only through the active participation of every section of society, alongside the administration. She said that creating awareness about the ill-effects of drugs and engaging youth in constructive activities could help effectively curb the menace.
She said it was the need of the hour to encourage young people towards sports, education and creative pursuits to keep them away from drugs. Families, social organisations and local residents should also discharge their responsibility in this direction so that the younger generation could be saved from falling into the trap of drug abuse.
During the meeting, emphasis was laid on spreading awareness against drugs, guiding the youth in the right direction and creating a positive environment in society. Mandal appealed to the people to actively support the ongoing anti-drug campaign and play their role in turning it into a mass movement.
On the occasion, SP Navneet Kaur also stressed the importance of better coordination between the police and the general public to deal with the drug problem. She appealed to residents to share any information related to drug trafficking with the police so that action could be taken against such elements as per law.
