Government Must Immediately Dismiss Officials Responsible for the Barnala Lathi-Charge: Sampla

Hoshiarpur/ July 31/Daljeet Ajnoha : Former Union Minister and former Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Vijay Sampla, said that the Punjab Government has continuously betrayed the employees of Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils. Before coming to power, the government made grand promises to regularize these employees, but today the same workers are compelled to protest on the streets for their legitimate rights. This clearly reflects the gap between the government’s promises and its actions.

Today, Vijay Sampla, along with BJP workers, participated in the ongoing protest led by Karanjot Adiya, President of the Safai Karamchari Union, Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur (Regd.), Vice President Somnath Adiya, and Vikramjit Bunty, in support of the demand for regularization of Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council employees.

Addressing the gathering, Vijay Sampla strongly condemned the police lathi-charge on sanitation workers in Barnala who were peacefully protesting for their legitimate rights. He said that using force against peaceful protesters is unacceptable in a democracy and exposes the anti-employee and authoritarian mindset of the Punjab Government.

He further stated that instead of resolving the genuine grievances of employees, the government is attempting to suppress their voices through police action, which the Bharatiya Janata Party will never accept. Any attack on the rights and dignity of employees is an attack on society as a whole.

Vijay Sampla demanded that all police and administrative officials responsible for the Barnala lathi-charge be dismissed with immediate effect, a judicial inquiry be ordered into the incident, and strict action be taken against those found guilty. He also urged the Punjab Government to fulfil, without further delay, its electoral promise of regularizing Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council employees.

He assured the protesting employees that the Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly with them in their struggle for justice and will continue to fight for their rights at every level, from the streets to the legislature.

Among those present were Valmiki community leader Manoj Kennedy, BJP District Vice President Bharat Bhushan Verma, Nitin Gupta, BJYM District President Shivam Ohri, BJYM District General Secretary Suraj Sharma, along with a large number of BJP workers and representatives of employees’ organizations.
