Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/May 14 : A meeting of the Rotary Eye Bank and Cornea Transplant Society was organised at Universal Health Clinic, Garhshankar, under the chairmanship of Dr Tarsem Singh, chairman of the Body Donation Committee, and JB Bahal, president of Rotary Eye Bank.
During the meeting, Bahal informed that the organisation had performed cornea (pupil) operations on 58 people in the previous financial year, restoring their eyesight. Dr Tarsem Singh shared that efforts by the society led to a letter, sent via Avinash Rai Khanna, to the Governor, demanding the inclusion of an eye donation column in admission forms of Punjab’s universities and colleges. The Governor directed all Punjab universities to implement this, with action already underway. Rayat Bahra University and Punjabi University, Patiala, have adopted the measure.
Bahal added that the organisation has so far replaced corneas for 4,165 people, giving them the gift of sight. Society cashier Madan Lal Mahajan stated that all services are provided free of cost with donors’ support. He appealed to people to pledge more eye donations, enabling light to enter the dark lives of two individuals per donor. Garhshankar unit secretary Onkar Singh Chahalpur outlined the society’s work in detail.
Those present included Dr Lakhwinder Singh Lucky, president of the Garhshankar unit; Bhupinder Singh, joint secretary; Principal Jagdish Rai, advisor; Jasbir Singh Sujjon; motivator Naresh Gupta from Hoshiarpur; and other members. Dr Tarsem Singh urged everyone to donate eyes generously.
