Special checks on Delhi-bound buses

Hoshiarpur/Oct 22/Daljeet Ajnoha :With the festival season underway, the Health Department’s Food Safety teams have intensified checks across Hoshiarpur district to ensure that consumers receive safe and quality food products and to curb adulteration.
Acting on the directions of Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and Civil Surgeon Dr Mandip Kamal, the teams are conducting sustained inspections under the supervision of District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia. The drive aims to verify food quality, prevent adulteration and safeguard public health.
On Thursday morning, a team led by Food Safety Officer Vivek set up checkpoints at Prabhat Chowk and the Phagwara bypass to inspect buses arriving from Delhi. The officials examined food items being transported in the buses, with particular focus on paneer, khoya and other milk-based products.
During the inspection, one sample each of milk and paneer was collected and sent to a laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken as per rules after the test reports are received.
The Health Department has urged residents to exercise caution while purchasing milk, paneer, khoya and sweets during the festive season. Consumers have been advised to buy food items only from reliable outlets and to report any suspected adulteration or poor quality to the department.
Officials said strict action would be initiated against those found compromising public health, and the inspection and sampling drive would continue throughout the festival season. The checks are part of a wider Punjab food-safety effort, with recent inspections in Hoshiarpur also covering paneer, khoya and other food items transported by vehicles.
