Sweet Poison Sold on Punjab

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/April 17 : Near village Davida Ahirana on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road, migrant workers operating sugarcane crushers are selling “sweet poison” along the roadside, while the administration remains in a Kumbhakarni-like slumber.
Just a day earlier, the Doaba General Category Front Punjab and others organizations had seized about 100 bags of sugar from the aforementioned crusher. A video of the incident went viral after being live-streamed on the internet. The district administration and health department were informed via phone, but instead of immediate action, the sugar—used for adulterating jaggery—was simply shifted elsewhere.
Outraged by this, local residents, social organizations, and Nihang Singh groups blocked the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road today in protest. Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides. Demonstrators raised slogans against the government and administration, demanding strict action against the crusher owner.
On the occasion, Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, District Health Officer, Hoshiarpur, arrived at the site, held talks with the protesters, and assured them that stringent action would be taken against those selling fake jaggery.
Those present during the protest included Jathedar Baba Gurdev Singh, Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh (Misal Shahidan Tarna Dal Bajwara Kalan), Jathedar Balbir Singh Phuglana, Chairman Doaba General Category Front Punjab, Jathedar Surjit Singh Masuta Bhungarni, Comrade Jagtar Singh Bhungarni, Jai gopal pal Dhiman, Comrade Jasvir Singh Bham, Gurdial Singh Jalvehra, Mahendra Singh (former sarpanch, Khnaura), Mangal Singh Jalvehra, Satnam Singh Sindhu, Avtar Singh Mithu, Dalvir Singh (England), Manjinder Singh Sonu Taylor (Phuglana), Harman Singh Phuglana glana, Ajit Singh Khnaura, Davinder Singh Binda Mehtiana, Makhan Singh (America), Harjap Singh Makhan, Amandeep Singh Mona Kalan, Karanjeet Singh Mona Kalan, Jaspreet Singh Faglana, Sanjeev Jaswal Bham, Balbir Singh Bira Davida Ahirana, Mahendra Singh (former sarpanch, Mukhliana), Nambardar Sukhwinder Singh Pandori Kadd, Lakhwinder Singh Phuglana , Sukhi Bhungarni, Kala Panch, and others. Rajinder Singh, SHO Mehtiana, was also present with his police force.
