Hoshiarpur Civil Defence Air Raid/

Hoshiarpur/ April 24/Daljeet Ajnoha : A Civil Defence air raid and blackout mock drill was conducted successfully in the district on Friday under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, in accordance with the directions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The exercise was aimed at testing the administration’s emergency preparedness and inter-departmental coordination.
At DAV College, Hoshiarpur, the drill began at 8 pm with a red signal received at the Civil Defence Control Centre. Two minutes of high- and low-pitch sirens were sounded at 7:58 pm across the district to alert residents of an air raid warning, followed by a complete blackout at 8 pm.
Police personnel and Civil Defence volunteers ensured strict blackout enforcement across the district, with only essential services exempted. After the air threat was considered over, a green signal was issued from the Civil Defence Control Centre, the blackout was lifted, and an “all clear” message was conveyed through a continuous high-pitch siren for two minutes.
At the DAV College site, the Fire Brigade, Civil Surgeon’s office, Home Guards (Civil Defence), and NCC cadets demonstrated rescue operations. They practised first aid, relief work, and emergency response procedures, while police officials managed traffic, secured the area, and ensured the swift movement of rescue services.
SDM Amandeep Kaur Sandhu said the mock drill was successful and effectively tested coordination among departments as well as disaster management capabilities. She also thanked the residents of the district for their cooperation.
