Unknown youths open fire at

Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/May 24 : Panic gripped Manolian village on Saturday night after unidentified youths opened fire at a family home, police said.
According to residents, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and fired several rounds before fleeing. The household members were asleep when the shooting occurred and mistook the gunfire for the noise of a Royal Enfield (Bullet) motorcycle, so they did not wake up. Neighbours discovered evidence of the attack the next morning.
Jagir Kaur, wife of the late Subedar Sadhu Singh and a resident of Manolian, said she, her son-in-law Ranjeet Singh and granddaughter Ravneet Kaur were sleeping inside the house while her nephew Pakhar Singh slept in the courtyard and her son Kuldeep Singh slept outside in the compound. At about 11:15 pm on Friday, they heard four loud bangs but assumed a motorcycle was making the noise and did not get up. When they inspected the house the following morning, they found sand scattered outside the main door. A closer look revealed bullet marks on the wall beside the main entrance and on a plastic sheet covering the gate.
The family informed village sarpanch Gurdev Singh and other panchayat members, who in turn alerted the Mahilpur police. Officers at the scene recovered three spent cartridges and have begun examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras.
Inspecting officer and Station House Officer Inspector Ramandeep Kaur said police are scrutinising CCTV footage from the area and conducting a detailed investigation. “Whoever is involved in this incident will not be spared,” she said, adding that the police will arrest the accused soon.
