Strict action against drug traffickers; government initiatives underway to connect youth with skills and employment

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Sept.7 :The Punjab Police is continuously taking strong and effective action against the menace of drugs, with encouraging results being witnessed under the ongoing campaign against drug abuse. DSP Bharat Bhushan shared this information during a special interaction with Daljit Ajnoha.

DSP Bharat Bhushan said that the campaign against drugs is being carried forward under the guidance of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and in accordance with the directions of Hoshiarpur SSP Sandeep Malik. He said that the police are making continuous efforts to dismantle drug-trafficking networks and take strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

He emphasized that the fight against drugs is not the responsibility of the police alone, and that the active cooperation of society is equally important. Various initiatives are also being undertaken to help people who have become addicted to drugs. Such individuals are encouraged and assisted in reaching de-addiction centres, where they can receive the necessary support to overcome addiction and return to a normal life.

The DSP further said that special efforts are being made for young people who want to give up drugs and start working again. Through Skill Development Centres, the government is helping such youth acquire vocational skills so that they can pursue employment or self-employment and become financially independent. He said that providing young people with skills and livelihood opportunities is an important part of tackling the problem of drug abuse.

Issuing a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade, DSP Bharat Bhushan said that drug trafficking would not be tolerated under any circumstances and that strict legal action would be taken against those involved. He said that in several cases, drug traffickers have been brought under the ambit of strict action, with properties allegedly linked to illegal activities being seized in accordance with the law. He added that the crackdown has also resulted in several houses of drug traffickers remaining locked.

During the interaction, DSP Bharat Bhushan appealed to the public to extend maximum cooperation to the police in the campaign against drugs. He said that if people provide timely information about drug trafficking and related activities and work together to keep young people away from drugs, the menace can be tackled more effectively.

He stressed that while strict enforcement against drug traffickers is essential, equal attention must be given to helping those affected by addiction return to the mainstream of society. He said that the combined efforts of the police, families and society can play a decisive role in achieving the goal of a drug-free Punjab.
