Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/August 31 : Eye donation is considered the greatest donation, as it is truly a blessing for the visually impaired. It not only provides social and economic strength to the blind but also gives immense self-satisfaction to the donor. These views were expressed by District Public Relations Officer, Hoshiarpur, Hardev Singh Aasi, and Tanda Incharge of the Eye Donation Association, Hoshiarpur, and state awardee Bhai Barinder Singh Masiti, during the awareness campaign organized under the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight.
On this occasion, Hardev Singh Aasi said that the Punjab Government is fully committed to eradicating blindness. He informed that from August 25 to September 8, Eye Donation Fortnight is being observed in all government hospitals of Punjab. During this period, specialist doctors are not only conducting eye check-ups but also creating awareness among people about eye donation so that blindness can be eliminated from the root.
Bhai Masiti explained that the eyes of a deceased person can be donated within five to six hours of death, and anyone, regardless of age, can donate their eyes—even if they had undergone surgery or used lenses. However, the eyes of patients suffering from AIDS, jaundice, blood cancer, or meningitis cannot be donated.
Assistant Public Relations Officers Lokesh Kumar and Rajneesh Kumar Guliani were also present on this occasion.
