Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/July 09 :
A meeting on rationalisation of polling stations was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain with representatives of all recognised political parties in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner said that, as per instructions from the Election Commission of India, the maximum number of electors at each polling station has been fixed at 1,200. In accordance with the Commission’s directions, necessary proposals have been prepared after completing the process of rationalising polling stations across the district.
She said that all Returning Officers in the district reviewed polling stations in their respective assembly segments and prepared proposals for the establishment of new polling booths, renaming some polling stations, relocating polling premises, and including new mohallas/sections.
During the meeting, the proposals were discussed in detail with representatives of various recognised political parties and their suggestions were received. All representatives expressed their agreement with the proposals. The Deputy Commissioner said that all necessary steps are being ensured as per the Election Commission’s guidelines to make the electoral process more transparent, convenient and voter-friendly.
Present on the occasion were Khushi Ram Dhiman (Aam Aadmi Party), Rajneesh Tandon (Indian National Congress), Jagtar Singh (Shiromani Akali Dal), Balwinder Singh (CPI-M), Bhushan Kumar Sharma (BJP), Election Tehsildar Ramandeep Kaur and Election Kanungo Lakhbir Singh.
